The Make Up Maniac
Volume Two
Number One
Well, how were the Tony's?
That's what everyone asked me the past two weeks. They were so great!!!
You know, I think a lot of times we get used to seeing stars in LA - on
set or on location in the trailers etc. that we forget that there is
a lot of glamour behind these people. And the Tony's has to be one of
the most prestigious events to remind us. Celebrating the art of acting
and stage, it is an actor training ground or aspiration live theater!
As the CBS televised portion of the awards was about to begin the star
presenters lined up in front of us backstage. There was Angela Lansbury,
Bea Arthur, Calista Flockhart, Alec Baldwin, Christian Slater, Brian Dennehy,
William Hurt. All, walking past me. The make up room had them flowing
through beautiful, dressed luxuriously with gems and hair jewels, Julie
Andrews, Carol Burnett. Stage right Kevin Spacey, Martin Short. It was
something that makes you realize how fun it would be to be a star. Especially
when we walked out the stage entrance to face police blockades set up
across the street to keep the screaming fans at bay.
And for some more back stage
gossip ---- as Terry Maki the key make up artist & supervisor from Team
RPM/Washington D.C. held down the fort in the make up room Steve and
I were stage left and Sher and Nancy were stage right, prepared for any
last minute touch ups. Sher bumps into a handsome guy named Vincent Longo
who was there doing make up for Bernadette Peters. (She looks fantastic
by the way.) Apparently he is very nice, and very debonair - so Sher has
a big crush on him now.
Oh and the NYC night life!!!
What a city. Terry treated us to a night on the town Martini's at the
Park Central, dinner at Lucky Cheng's and dancing in the Village. And
I cannot leave out the private bus ride back to our hotel room on the
Kinder Care bus with a very cool bus driver named Marvin. Ugh it took
me a week to recover but the trip was a blast and I hope to repeat it
next year! THANKS TERRY!!!!!!

Sometimes we get these inspired
ideas, they come to us and we know…it's brilliant! Then in the midst of
pulling off these blessed inspirations we wonder if it was pure insanity
that drove us to jump. That is how I felt Monday morning after moving
our corporate headquarters over the weekend. Fax lines were non-existent
and everything was in quite a different place. But by Wednesday it was
obvious that this was meant to be. We have a fresh space, lot's more of
it and every day we are closer to opening the Cyber Show Room, where you
can come and visit Make Up Mania in the real world. We will keep you posted,
we plan to be open for the public in early July and of course we are planning
the Grand Opening for late August.

Palladio. We have launched
a new line which is bringing European formulas of some old favorite to
our website. The Palladio Liquid toners for under foundation skin correction
with a new twist: sunscreen. And corrector toner pencils and foundation
pencils. How easy is that you can take these flaw correctors anywhere
in your purse for quick beauty touch ups on the go. They have nice prices
too. $9.00 for the toners and $6.00 for the pencils. See them on Tia's
floor.
MAKE UP MANIAC TIP OF THE WEEK
Do you absolutely love new
lipstick colors???? Do you save every color you ever bought waiting
to use again if it would just come back in style? Is it just too expensive
to keep up with the trends? What is a lipstick lover to do? Mix your own!!!!
Of course!!! You probably have blended some colors on your lips but
with just a few new shades you can unleash a whole rainbow of colors to
satisfy even the greediest lipstick junkie.
You need a few items to make
it easy. We have this type of stuff here at Make Up mania or you can be
creative and wrangle up what you need from around your house.
Here is what you need:
A Palette. You need this to mix your lipstick
on. We have stainless steel ones for $5.00. A white tile is great. And
I love using the wax paper pads from the art store. Have them cut it in
half for you so it's not so big.
A Palette Knife or Spatula. We have a stainless
steel one, but the palette knife from the art store works well, it has
a nice give to it. I use an antique butter knife that I love. Something
flat that you can push down on the palette to really mix up the lipstick.
Make Up Palette Container or Stackable Jars.
We carry the Japonesque Palettes and the stackables. You can use old lip
gloss pots or pill reminder holders. To clean out an old pot, scrape out
as much as you can with a tissue. Wash in hot water using Palmolive Dishwashing
Liquid (Cuts Grease! And good for brushes too but that's another tip
of the week : ) ) . Then remove any left over residue with alcohol. You
can find lots of things to hold your mixed lipcolor - once you have the
perfect shade.
Lipstick Brush. Once it is out of the tube
form it is messy to apply it any other way. The retractables are good
for taking your new color with you.
Now a few colors to work the
magic…I suggest:
A black lipstick for making your lipcolor darker or richer in value.
A white lipstick for making it lighter or more pastel.
A bright gold or bronze to give a warm summer shimmer.
A silver or icy blue lipstick, for a cool shimmer.
A Vitamin E stick to make a sheer lipcolor. Great for your lips too!
A Translucent gloss to make a glossy lipcolor.
Directions:
Place your palette on the counter and scrape that old color from the tube
and put on the palette. Now decide what you want to do with this color.
Do you want to lighten it, darken it or make it more sheer.
To darken it use just a little
black a little goes a long way. To lighten use the white and so on.
Mix the colors thoroughly on the palette with your palette knife. You
can test the color now, and add shimmer or lighten it up. Scrape your
new color into your pot and , voila, a new shade!
Experiment & play around. You
can even mix two or three colors together if you stay in the family. Once
you get to many colors involved it will go brown so be careful. Of
course that may be what you want. Have fun; I bet your friends will want
to know what you're wearing! And for on set work you don't have to carry
a gazillion colors!!
Email me at eva@makeupmania.com and let me know your results!!!
