Make
Up Mania Newsletters
Volume 1, Number 3 - November
9, 1998
Hey Crew,
This week I took some time
and actually went shopping on Make Up Mania. (What a concept) Usually
my day is spent getting orders together, getting them out on time, bringing
inventory in, developing the page; that by the time I even get onto
the computer the day is over. Then I do e-mails!
I guess I needed a reason to shop. Luckily, I was invited to my friend
Ron's birthday party, so I sat down at my computer here and browsed
around our on-line store. I was so pleased; it was easy - and fun -
I would have liked to spend more time shopping. I ended up getting him
the Serenity Aroma Natural Candle, the Stress Therapy Bath Packets and
put them together with a Bottle of Mumm's Napa Valley Demi-Sec (from
the case I bought when I was in Napa a few weeks ago.) Ron is a celebrity
photographer and very very busy - so, voila' perfect gift. Gee maybe
I deserve a gift from me too….
** Make Up News **
The new issue of Make-Up Artist Magazine is out! They have outdone themselves
for their October/November issue! As Michael Key, Editor-in -chief points
out there are more people thinking about make up now than any other
time of year. How nice.
Monsta-rama treat this Halloween
issue. Steve Johnson opens up some dark closets to show us some of the
scariest make ups he's done up close and personal. (Also pics from his
new show Mercy Point.) Todd McIntosh reviews the great and masterful
fx genius of Dick Smith. Dick Smith's famous make-up of Barnabas Collins
as a one hundred and seventy five-year-old vampire is as scary as it
was when TV audiences saw it thirty years ago. Top notch by today's
standards. (Mr. Smith is also a guest columnist in this issue.)
Kim Goodwin again gives inspiring
insight to the fashion world of make-up artistry and the Product News
always shows a wide array of new make up products from several venues,
not just department store brands. If you have ever thought about make
up as an art, hobby or career, this magazine and especially this issue
is proto-plasmi-col!
** Make Up Reviews **
This week I want to do a review of a line you may have noticed in our
online store but probably have never heard of: La Femme. Now you may
have thought you should try it, just because of the price. But the price
is not the reason it is in our store. It is the quality of La Femme.
When we started Make Up Mania! there were certain lines I wanted to
have, for their sheer professionalism. The price point of La Femme was
an extra bonus. Because it is so inexpensive, some retailers have priced
it higher to gain a larger mark up. I decided NOT to do this because
I thought the price was part of what was amazing about La Femme. Every
one should have access to a great product for a great price. La Femme
is a highly pigmented line of cosmetics that never went into extreme
package and image advertising. I found this line years ago and it has
never left my kit. Why? It lasts on the skin for hours and hours. (A
necessity on set!) Also the flexibility of the medium is unsurpassed.
The matte colors can be mixed with water, (or what ever your makeup
artist brain can dream up), the colors are strong enough to be diluted
with powder and still wear well and they are very blendable. Plus the
color selection is a rainbow of love!
Try copying some of the expensive
brands' color stories in La Femme you can afford to be as whimsical
as the fashion industry with these prices!
